The Sorcerer's Apprentice is a comedy directed by Jon Turteltaub. Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) is a sorcerer who lives in modern-day Manhattan. He is a disciple of the legendary sorcerer Merlin and fights against the forces of evil, in particular Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina) and his aim is to search for the person to inherit Merlin's powers. The battle will go on until he finds a so-called chosen. Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel), who is a physics student at New York University, turns out to be this person. And Balthazar takes him as an apprentice and teaches Dave to do magic so he could stop Horvath and Morgana from destroying the world. The wizard Maxim Horvath claims New York City as his own.Dave has to fulfill his destiny and bring the battle between evil sorcerers to an end.
The film Sorcerer's Apprentice is full of magic. I don't consider the movie itself to be magical. There is a plenty of special effects but they are unimpressive. The visual style of the director Turteltaub is not really distinctive, but it helps to keep the film well-paced and the audience remains engaged. Unfortunately he has a tendency of throwing in stale pop songs during the film. |
